όπως ξέρουν οι Ελληνοκαναδοί, οι Ελληνοαμερικάνοι, οι Έλληνες απ΄το εξωτερικό πάντα θέλουμε να'χουμε ένα πόδι στην Ελλάδα, all right, και θέλουμε μιά δικαιολογία για να δούμε τι μπορούμε να κάνουμε να'χουμε, αυτό το πόδι μέσα. Και το δικό μου ήτανε το real estate 10 και χρόνια είχα αρχίσει μια εκπομπή να κάνουμε drive awareness να ξέρουμε τι γίνεται στην Ελλάδα τότε.

στο Τορόντο, Καναδά εκεί μεγάλωσα και όταν ήμουνα 19 χρονών είχα μία πρακτική στην Κέρκυρα στην Ελλάδα με ην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση και πριν πάω Έλλαδα ήθελα να μετακομίσω, να φύγω για Ελλάδα και όλοι λέγανε που πας και αυτά τα πράγματα χάλια

Και έκανα αυτή την πρακτική στην Κέρκυρα, που ήτανε πολύ ωραία χρονιά. Ξέρεις έμαθα πολλά, βοηθούσα, κάναμε γύρω τις επιχειρήσεις, τους Έλληνες που βοηθούσαμε με τα business plan , να πάρουνε χρήματα από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση. Και μόλις έμεινα αυτό το χρόνο έβλεπα με τους μισθούς και αυτά δεν βγαίνει έτσι όπως νόμιζα και ξαναγύρισα Καναδά και από Ιρλανδία δουλειές και αυτά βρέθηκα Νέα Υόρκη στην Αμερική και τώρα ξέρεις όταν έφυγα είπα στην μάνα μου ένα χρόνο δύο μα και θα γυρίσω Καναδά και τώρα έχουν περάσει κοντά 20 χρόνια και με τρία παιδιά και ακόμα περιμένει η καημένη.

Αυτό ναι! Αλλά πριν από 12 και χρόνια με το real estate είχα αρχίσει ένα website που ήτανε από τα πρώτα στην Ελλάδα, που κάναμε αγγελίες αλλά βοηθάγαμε στο εξωτερικό όχι από τους Έλληνες στην Ελλάδα να αγοράσουνε

Και εκεί άρχισα από Νέα Υόρκη και φτιάξαμε αυτή την εταιρεία. Τώρα μένω Καλιφόρνια, Λος Άντελες έξω από εκεί και ταξίδια από δουλειά από αυτά και εδώ μένω τώρα.

Μάλιστα, μάλιστα! Φαντάζομαι κάποιες επαφές τις επαφές τις έχεις κρατήσει από τότε θέλω να μας πει λίγο και ο Γιώργος που έχει την εμπειρία προ 10ετίας βέβαια, της αγοροπωλησίας ακινήτων στην Ελλάδα; Πως του ακούγονται όλα αυτά;

E κοιτάξτε πριν 10-12 χρόνια και σήμερα ήτανε 2 διαφορετικές ιστορίες. Τότε εγώ τι έκανα, βοηθούσα τους Έλληνες που είχανε ακίνητα να βρουν αγοραστές στο εξωτερικό τότε. Και τότε ήτανε κάτι πολύ αρνητικό από την εμπειρία μου, που λέγανε πωα να....στα Ελληνικά δεν ξέρω πως να το πούμε...

Αφού είχε φτάσει να μέχρι και το Wall Street Journal που μιλάγανε για αυτήν την ιστορία με την εκπομπή που είχα κάνει και συζητάγανε αυτό και ήτανε πολύ αρνητικό στην Ελλάδα. Ττώρα, δεν μπορούνε να σταματήσουν, όλοι θέλουν να αγοράσουνε, όλοι θέλουν να επενδύσουνε σε ξενοδοχεία. Και με την εταιρεία που έχω τώρα, που είναι γύρω από τον φωτισμό και έχουμε γραφτεί και στην Ελλάδα, στην Αθήνα βλέπουμε πολλά λεφτά, χρήματα να έρχονται από το εξωτερικό, από όλες τις χώρες γιανα ας πούμε αρμέξουνε την ευκαιρία που γίνεται τώρα στην Ελλάδα. Είναι δύο διαφορετικές περιπτώσεις.

Πολύ ωραία, πολύ ωραία! Ηιώργο θέλω να μου πεις πως ξεκίνησες την εταιρεία σου στην Ελλάδα με τα φωτιστικά;

Ναι! Εδώ όταν είχα κάνει το website για τα ακίνητα εεε δεν ήτανε ο βασικός , η βασική δουλειά μου, δουλειά στα φωτιστικά στην Νέα Υόρκη, και είχαμε μια εταιρεία πριν με κάποιους συνεργάτες και αυτό το είχαμε πουλήσει και είχε μπει στο χρηματιστήριο στο New York και τότε δουλεύαμε για μιά μεγάλη εταιρεία και δεν ήτανε το στυλ μου, ξέρεις ο άλλος να σου λέει αυτό και αυτό δεν ήταν δικό μας. So, με τον συνέταιρό μου αρχίσαμε αυτήν την εταιρεία εδώ και 8-10 χρόνια και από τότε ξέραμε ο Έλληνας πολύ έξυπνος γενικά οι έξυπνοι σκέφτονται αλλιώς. Και από τότε δεν ήταν εύκολα, είχαμε πάρει, να συνεργαστούμε με Έλληνες στην Ελλάδα για την εταιρεία μας στην ΝέαΥόρκη.

Καμιά σχέση για την Ελλάδα. Και ήταν μιά δοκιμή, ξέρεις και είχαμε κάποια άτομα που δουλεύουνε μαζί μας απ΄το marketing και το production videos κτλ. Και όπως περνάγανε τα χρόνια και μεγάλωνε η εταιρεία μου. Τώρα έχουμε τα προϊόντα μας, είναι σε 30 χώρες παγκόσμιο installed. Και λέγαμε πριν κάνα 2 χρόνια με βοήθεια απ’το πρέσβη απ΄τον Καναδά που είναι φίλος, πρώην πρέσβης του Καναδά στην Ελλάδα. Και λέγαμε ξέρεις για την Ελλάδα, τώρα είναι και καλή ώρα να ανοίξουμε και γραφείο, να γίνει επίσημο κτλ. So, κάναμε αυτό πριν από 1 χρόνο το “launch party” στο Μουσείο του Λαλαούνη, κάτω από την Ακρόπολη και το κάναμε και τώρα έχουμε 7 υπαλλήλους στην Ελλάδα που δουλεύουνε και δεν κυνηγάμε την μαρκέτα στην Ελλάδα, ακόμα δουλεύουνε. Αν σκεφτείς άλλες χώρες πάνε για...

“labor”, να δουλέψουνε. Εγώ θέλω η Ελλάδα να’ναι αυτό για εμάς. Γιατί έχουμε παιδιά με πτυχία, σκέφτονται αλλιώς, έχουνε το ευρωπαϊκό. Ο Έλληνας έχει αυτό το πάθος, ό,τι και να κάνουνε θέλουν να γίνει τέλεια, all right, ας λένε ότι λένε για τον Έλληνα στο εξωτερικό καλά-κακά είναι-ήταν αυτό. Στο γραφείο που ανοίξαμε τώρα στον χρόνο, εεε μεγαλώνει, έχουμε πάρει και δουλειά απ΄την Ελλάδα με κάποια μεγάλα ξενοδοχεία, ονόματα που δεν μπορούμα να πούμε ακόμα και κάνουμε τα φωτιστικά. Είναι η μαρκέτα στην Ελλάδα, μεγαλώνει, βλέπουμε κάθε μέρα πόσα λεφτά μπαίνουνε μέσα και ή κερδίσουμε στην Ελλάδα έργα ή δεν κερδίσουμε εμείς είμαστε εκεί. Έχει γίνει μία έδρα για εμάς έξω απ’την Αμερική που είναι πολύ σημαντικό για τις δουλειές μας.

Εδώ στην Καλιφόρνια είναι λίγο αλλιώς, είναι όλα μακριά, όπου να πας δεν υπάρχει ένα κέντρο, να πεις ότι εκεί θα πάμε και έχω συζητήσει με τον Tony για αυτό! Ξες το επόμενο Ευρωπαϊκό που θα κερδίσει η Ελλάδα,κ δεν ξέρω που θα πάμε να κάνουμε πανηγύρι! Εδώ ή στην Καλιφόρνια, δεν υπάρχει ένας δρόμος! So, αυτό ακόμα πάω να το βρω, να το γτιάξουμε.

Ναι! Πριν ακι τα social media και τα influencer για αυτά με την Ελλάδα, ήμουν στην Βοστώνη, είχα μπλέξει με την Κοινότητα τηε Ελλάδος πάρα πολύ, από μικρό παιδί ήμουνα....

με τα, τις εκκλησίες που παίζαμε σπορ. Εεε έχω, κάνω ένα τουρνουά τώρα 15 χρόνια που φωνάζουμε όλους τους Έλληνες που είναι απ΄την Αμερική, να’ρθουν να παίξουν μπάσκετ για μία εβδομάδα και είναι memorial τουρνουά για τον μπαμπά μου και κάνουμε κάθε χρόνο τα λεφτά που έρχονται πάνε σε ένα παιδί που πάει University. Ε και τώρα αυτό το κάνουμε 15 χρόνια και είναι, τώρα έγινε πάρα πολύ μεγάλο που και η...τα νέα εκεί στην Ελλάδα παίρνουν τηλέφωνο και ρωτάνε πως πας, στείλε φωτογραφίες, θα βάλουμε στο newspaper και πάντοτε από παιδί ήμουνα με την Κοινότητα στην Βοστώνη.

Έχω τρεις κόρες! Ναι τα δικά μου! 8, 5 και 2 και κοίυαξε τα δικά μου ελληνικά έχουν γίνει καλύτερα από τότε που είχα παιδιά, γιατί λέω εδώ κάτω η γυναίκα μου είναι μισή Ελληνίδα μισή Μεξικάνα. Μιλάει Ελληνικά αλλάς το σπίτι έχει γίνει Αγγλικά μόνο. Και λέω αν δεν τα κάνω εδώ και οι γονείς μου μένουν Καναδά, αν δεν τα κρατήσω εγώ δεν θα γίνει! Στο σπίτι προσπαθώ και σίγουρα 1000 φορές την ημέρα λέω, ξαναπές το στα Ελληνικά πες το στα Ελληνικά πες το στα Ελληνικά! Ξες έχει γίνει κούραση αλλά τώρα βλέπεις τα παιδιά, μιλάνε καταλαβαίνουνε. Το τρίτο είναι λίγο έτσι αλλά κάτι θα γίνει!

Σωστό, σωστό! Ε τότε όταν μεγάλωσες στον Καναδά, είχε Ελληνικό σχολείο εκεί!

Είχε, είχε μιά φορά την εβδομάδα πηγαίναμε. Εμείς πηγαίναμε, παίζαμε ξες αθλήματα. Δεν ήτανε για το σχολείο αλλά όταν μεγαλώνεις λες ευτυχώς που μας πρόγρανε και το κάναμε και έξω απ’την γλώσσα που είναι σημαντικό είναι να ξέρεις τους χορούς, τι σημαίνει να’σε Έλληνα. Το ίδιο με τον Tony που μεγάλωσε Βοστώνη. Όπου να’μασταν οι γονείς μας και αυτή την γενιά, κάνανε τέλεια δουλειά γιατί δεν ξέρανε αλλιώς! Ήταν εύκολο για αυτούς να το κάνουν. Η δύσκολη δουλειά θα’ναι η δικιά μας η γενιά, που είναι, σβήνει σιγά-σιγά, σπαστά και τα λοιπά, τώρα είναι η δουλειά που πρέπει να το κρατήσουμε.

Η γενιά η δικιά σας παρ’όλο που εσείς μου λέτε ότι δεν θεωρείται ότι μιλάτε καλά Ελληνικά, εγώ θεωρώ ότι μιλάτε πολύ καλά Ελληνικά.

Έχω μιλήσει με ανθρώπους που ξέρουν μόνο καλημέρα και καλησπέρα και αυτό γιατί δεν τους μίλαγαν Ελληνικά στο σπίτι, δεν πήγαν ποτέ σχολείο και αν δεν μιλήσεις στο σπίτι Ελληνικά που είναι το πιό βασικό, είναι δύσκολο να τα μάθεις! Και κάποιες λέξεις που θα ξέρεις, τα ξέρεις ίσως από τύχη, ίσως επειδή τις άκουσες πολλές φορές. Πολύ καλά μιλάτε και οι δύο σας!

Να’μαι στη ζωή, πρώτα υγεία. Στα επόμενα 10 χρόνια θα ήθελα να αρχίσω, ξέρεις να συνεχίσω να μεγαλώσω την εταιρεία και όπως μεγάλωσα και εγώ στα πόδια στους γονείς μου, στα μαγαζιά, στα εστιατόρια, θέλω να’χω και τα παιδιά μου, να’ναι στα πόδια μου

στην επιχείριση, να καταλάβουνε, να μάθουνε και αυτά. Και στα επόμενα 3 με 4 χρόνια θέλω να έχω και εργοστάσιο στην Αθήνα, έξω απ΄την Αθήνα για να φτιάχνουμε και τα φωτιστικά όχι μόνο να τα σχεδιάσουμε. Είναι το mini-factory να φέρουμε στην Ελάδα, κάτι που κυνηγάω τώρα και είναι σοβαρό βήμα, θα δούμε βέβαια που θα πάει, αυτό μόνο!

as the Greek-Canadians, the Greek-Americans, the Greeks from abroad know, we always want to have a foot in Greece, all right, and we want an excuse to see what we can do to have that foot inside. And mine was real estate for 10 years and I started a show to drive awareness to know what was happening in Greece back then.

Yes! Tell us a few words about yourself. Where were you born, how did you grow up, I see your Greek is very good!

in Toronto, Canada that's where I grew up and when I was 19 years old I had an internship in Corfu in Greece with the European Union and before I went to Greece I wanted to move, leave for Greece and everyone was saying where are you going and these things crap

And I did this internship in Corfu, which was a very nice year. You know, I learned a lot, I helped, we made the businesses around, the Greeks we helped with the business plans, to get money from the European Union. And as soon as I stayed this year, I was looking at the salaries and they didn't work out like I thought and I came back to Canada and from Ireland jobs and these I found myself in New York in America and now you know when I left I said to my mother a year or two but I will return to Canada and now almost 20 years have passed with three children and the poor woman is still waiting.

That's right! But 12 years ago with real estate I started a website that was one of the first in Greece, where we advertised but helped abroad not Greeks in Greece to buy

And that's where I started from New York and we built this company. I now live in California, Los Angeles out of there and commute from there and here I live now.

And with the company I have now, which is around lighting and we are also registered in Greece, in Athens we see a lot of money, money coming from abroad, from all countries to let's say milk the opportunity that is now happening in Greece. They are two different cases.

Very nice, very nice! Hiiorgos, I want you to tell me how you started your company in Greece with lighting?

Yes! Here when I had made the website for real estate uh it wasn't the main, my main job, lighting work in New York, and we had a company before with some partners and we had sold that and it had gone public in New York and then we worked for a big company and it wasn't my style, you know the other person tells you this and that wasn't our style. So, my partner and I started this company 8-10 years ago and since then we knew that the Greek is very smart, in general smart people think differently. And since then it was not easy, we had to work with Greeks in Greece for our company in New York.

Nothing to do with Greece. And it was a test, you know, and we had some people working with us from marketing and production videos, etc. And as the years went by, my company grew. Now we have our products, they are installed in 30 countries worldwide. And we were talking 2 years ago with the help of the ambassador from Canada who is a friend, former Canadian ambassador to Greece. And we were saying, you know, for Greece, now is a good time to open an office, to make it official, etc. So, we did this 1 year ago, the "launch party" at the Lalaounis Museum, under the Acropolis, and we did it and now we have 7 employees in Greece who are working and we are not chasing the market in Greece, they are still working. If you think about other countries they go for...

"labor", to work. I want Greece to be this for us. Because we have children with degrees, they think differently, they have the European one. The Greek has this passion, whatever they do they want it to be perfect, all right, let's say that they say about the Greek abroad, good-bad-is-was that. In the office that we opened now in time, it's growing, we've also got work from Greece with some big hotels, names that we can't say yet, and we make the lighting. It is the market in Greece, it is growing, we see every day how much money is coming in and either we win projects in Greece or we don't, we are there. It has become a headquarters for us outside America which is very important for our business.

With Hellenism where it is! Then I stayed 15 years in New York. You know the biggest Greek Club in America, all right! Here in California it's a bit different, it's all far away, there's no center where you go, you can say that's where we're going and I've talked to Tony about that! You know the next European that Greece will win, and I don't know where we will go to celebrate! Here or in California, there is no one way! So, I'm still going to find this, let's make it.

Yes! Before even social media and influencers for things with Greece, I was in Boston, I was involved with the Greek community a lot, since I was a small child...

with the, the churches where we played sports. Eh I have, I've been doing a tournament for 15 years now where we call all the Greeks who are from America to come play basketball for a week and it's a memorial tournament for my dad and we do it every year the money that comes goes to a child who goes to university Well, now we've been doing this for 15 years and it's, now it's become too big that the... the news over there in Greece call and ask how you're doing, send photos, we'll put them in the newspaper and I've always been with the Community in Boston.

I have three daughters! Yes mine! 8, 5 and 2 and look my Greek has gotten better since I had kids because I say down here my wife is half Greek half Mexican. He speaks Greek but the house has become English only. And I say if I don't do them here and my parents live in Canada, if I don't keep them it won't happen! At home I try and say 1000 times a day, say it again in Greek say it in Greek say it in Greek! You know it has become tiring but now you see the children, they speak and understand. The third is a bit like that but something will happen!

He had, he used to go once a week. We used to go, play different sports. It wasn't for school but when you grow up you say luckily that we were programmed and we did it and outside of the language what is important is to know the dances, what it means to be Greek. Same with Tony who grew up in Boston. Wherever our parents and this generation were, they did a perfect job because they didn't know any other way! It was easy for them to do it. The difficult job will be ours, the generation that is, is slowly dying out, sporadically and so on, now it is the job that we have to keep it.

Your generation, even though you tell me that you are not considered to speak Greek well, I believe that you speak Greek very well.

I've talked to people who only know good morning and good evening and that's because they didn't speak Greek at home, they never went to school and if you don't speak Greek at home which is the most basic, it's hard to learn them! And some words that you will know, you know them maybe by chance, maybe because you heard them many times. You both speak very well!

Outside of all the phone and the influence and the likes and million of views outside of that, me personally with what he uploads and what he does every summer and goes to places I don't know existed in Greece, it is very important this is not just he goes and looks....it's something that a Greek with roots goes to see Greece more, right?

in business, to understand, to learn these too. And in the next 3 to 4 years, I want to have a factory in Athens, outside of Athens, so that we can make the lamps and not just design them.
