DAY TRIP TO THESSALONIKI: LIGHTING & GLOBAL RELATIONSHIPS

ARTICLE SUMMARY

A day trip to Thessaloniki brought together a presentation to a major museum client, time with our Ideoli Europe team and a chance to enjoy the city. I reflect on the relationships, local knowledge and curiosity behind international business.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Presenting lighting expertise starts with understanding the people and purpose behind a space.

  • International business combines client relationships, local teamwork and an appreciation for the places where we work.

From Los Angeles to Athens, then up to Thessaloniki. This trip brought a full day of business meetings, new opportunities and the culture, food and hospitality that make traveling in Greece so rewarding.

I was joined by Kostas Varnavopoulos, Managing Director of Ideoli Europe, for an opportunity to present our company's lighting expertise and services to a major museum client. It was a chance to introduce what our team can offer and continue building relationships in northern Greece.

LIGHTING EXPERTISE, SHARED IN PERSON

At IDEOLI GROUP, our work connects people, products and the spaces they help bring to life. A presentation like this gives us an opportunity to share that experience while learning more about a client's priorities.

Our LIGHTING SERVICES span project design, product specification, procurement, bespoke lighting and international logistics. Those capabilities provide a starting point for a conversation. Understanding what a particular space needs is what makes the conversation useful.

GLOBAL BUSINESS STARTS WITH PEOPLE

Having Kostas alongside me reflects the importance of our European team. Working across borders depends on people who can connect the wider company with local relationships and opportunities.

As an entrepreneur, I value these days on the ground. Meetings put faces to conversations and create time to ask questions, exchange ideas and understand each other. The travel is one part of it. The relationships are what give the trip its purpose.

MAKING ROOM FOR THESSALONIKI

A packed business schedule also brought opportunities to enjoy Thessaloniki's local culture, food and hospitality. The city's tourism organisation explores how its diverse history has shaped its GASTRONOMIC IDENTITY. It is a useful introduction for anyone planning a visit.

For me, discovering a place is part of doing business internationally. Taking an interest in the city around a meeting helps make the experience about more than the work alone.

BUILDING OPPORTUNITIES ACROSS BORDERS

This is what I love about international business: building relationships, discovering new places and creating opportunities around the world. A day trip can bring all three together.

For another perspective from the field, read about my WEWORK VISIT IN LONDON. Closer to Athens, our CUSTOM LIGHTING AT CONRAD ATHENS THE ILISIAN offers a look at the collaboration behind a completed project.
