KEYNOTE AT THE GLOBAL BUSINESS AND TECH (GBATA) CONFERENCE IN ATHENS

George Stroumboulis, CEO and Co-Founder of Ideoli Group, delivered his Building Beyond Borders keynote at the 26th Annual International Conference of the Global Business and Technology Association (GBATA), held at the Titania Hotel in Athens, Greece, from July 14–17, 2026.

BUILDING BEYOND BORDERS

It was an incredible honor to serve as a keynote speaker at the 26th Annual International Conference of the Global Business and Technology Association, held from July 14–17, 2026, at the Titania Hotel in Athens, Greece.

Presented in cooperation with Hellenic American University, this year’s conference focused on the theme:

Critical and Strategic Perspectives: Shaping the Future of Global Business and Technology

The event brought together academics, executives, entrepreneurs, researchers, and business leaders from around the world to exchange ideas about leadership, technology, international business, innovation, and the forces shaping the future of global commerce.

Returning to Athens

Speaking in Athens made the experience especially meaningful.

Greece has always been deeply connected to my identity, my family, and my professional journey. Returning to Athens to share lessons from building an international company felt less like arriving at a destination and more like coming home.

The conference created an ideal setting for meaningful conversations with people representing a wide range of countries, industries, universities, and professional backgrounds. Beyond the formal presentations, some of the most valuable moments came from the discussions, introductions, and relationships formed throughout the week.

Building Beyond Borders

My keynote was titled: Building Beyond Borders

How Curiosity, Relationships, and Leadership Drive Global Growth

The presentation explored the experiences, decisions, and relationships that helped shape both my leadership philosophy and the growth of Ideoli Group.

Ideoli has evolved into a multinational lighting solutions provider serving projects across more than 30 countries through custom design, manufacturing, distribution, technology, and global project support. Along the way, we have had the privilege of supporting recognized organizations across hospitality, retail, commercial development, automotive, fitness, and technology.

However, the keynote was not designed as a company presentation.

It focused on the human side of international growth: the importance of curiosity, cultural awareness, trusted relationships, local leadership, adaptability, and resilience.

One of the central ideas I shared was that companies do not become global simply because they enter new markets. Sustainable growth happens when people take the time to understand one another, deliver on their commitments, and build trust across borders.

We don’t export lighting. We export trust. The lighting just happens to travel with it.

Introducing the B.U.I.L.D. Framework

During the keynote, I also introduced my proprietary B.U.I.L.D. Framework, a leadership model developed from the experiences that have shaped my career and the growth of Ideoli.

The framework centers on five principles:

B — Be Curious
U — Understand People
I — Identify Champions
L — Localize Expertise
D — Design Resilience

Rather than sharing every detail of the framework, the keynote demonstrated how these principles can help leaders approach global growth with greater clarity, stronger relationships, and a deeper understanding of the people and markets they serve.

The framework is not limited to international business. It can also be applied to leadership, entrepreneurship, career development, personal growth, and the way we build lasting relationships.

A Global Exchange of Ideas

I was honored to be featured alongside fellow keynote speakers representing different areas of business and leadership.

Ioannis Mostrios, CEO and Founder of OLI Sports Tourism, shared his experience in sports tourism, corporate events, international tournaments, training programs, and major global sporting organizations.

Anastasios “Tasos” Vasios, Co-Founder and Head of Compliance at KIVON, brought extensive expertise in regulatory affairs, governance, market entry, responsible gaming, and compliance across Europe and Latin America.

The conference also featured academic research and professional insights from participants representing institutions across the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America.

The strength of GBATA lies in this combination of academic rigor and practical business experience. Conference submissions undergo a double-blind review process, with accepted papers eligible for publication in the 2026 GBATA Conference Readings Book, while selected work may also be considered for the Journal of Global Business and Technology.

The Q&A That Followed

One of the most rewarding parts of the keynote was the question-and-answer session that followed.

The audience raised thoughtful questions about international expansion, leadership, partnerships, risk, resilience, cultural differences, and the realities of building a company across multiple markets.

Those conversations added another dimension to the presentation. They allowed us to move beyond the prepared keynote and explore the practical challenges leaders face when they are trying to grow, adapt, and build trust in unfamiliar environments.

Several of those questions and responses will become part of future articles and content expanding on the ideas behind Building Beyond Borders and the B.U.I.L.D. Framework.

Gratitude

I am grateful to the entire GBATA leadership team, the organizers, Hellenic American University, the participating institutions, and everyone who attended the conference.

A special thank you to Dr. N. Delener and Dr. Peter Tsolis for the invitation, their leadership, and the opportunity to contribute to such an international and intellectually engaging event.

I also appreciate every person who introduced themselves, shared their story, asked a question, or continued the conversation after the keynote.

The event reinforced one of the core messages of the presentation:

Borders may separate countries, but curiosity connects people.

Athens was the perfect place to share that message, and I look forward to continuing the conversation.

We don’t export lighting. We export trust. The lighting just happens to travel with it.
